Google Chrome denied
So the U.S. trade sanctions against Sudan are at last beginning to bite. Here is the screen I got when I tried to download Google's new Chrome internet browser from Khartoum.
Something similar happened with Google Earth - at the time Google said it blocked downloads in Sudan saying it couldn't distribute its software in the blacklisted country.
First Google Earth. Now Google Chrome. Sudan's geeks are going to be enraged. Could this be the move that finally brings the Khartoum regime to its knees?

Are you suggesting the sanctions aren't effective? Say it ain't so!
Then again, Sudan may not be missing much. If Slashdot is to be believed (which, admittedly, isn't always the case) there's a rather interesting license agreement buried under that browser.

No - just tried it on a UK proxy and it worked fine. It is only when I am clearly in Sudan that it stops.

IE is going to offer users a chance to set IE to "private", which will block Google's Adwords advertising then Google Chrome born. Google Chrome is clean and fast. But I love Firefox.

“Could this be the move that finally brings the Khartoum regime to its knees?” LOL. The only thing that will bring the Khartoum and Addis (Ethiopian) dictatorial regime is assassination.

These days i just stayed in Khartoum. I faced the same problem with you. Today i found the way. You may try to download the full installer from http://gpdl.google.com/chrome/install/149.27/chrome_installer.exe from a proxy out of Sudan.

Google are still the good guys. They just have to comply with the laws of the bad guys namely the US Government that enforce export control to countries that they deem enemies of the state.
