The obvious

Can I break new ground by saying that here in Khartoum, it is very hot and very expensive.

But I am acclimatising.

Andrew, you haven't seen the worst yet. Have you heard about the sand storm?

I'm not trying to scare you but I heard it's awful, compared to the rainy season in Ethiopia.

Welcome to Sudan! I hope you have a great time and don't choke on the dust... :)

My memories of Khartoum are:

- Hot
- Flat
- Brown
- Dust
- Friendly
- Curfews

Of course, there was the long lines to get food and petrol. Back in the early 90's there weren't very many expats still in Sudan. A few embassy staff from a few countries, even fewer NGOs, and a handful of missionaries.

How has it changed? I haven't been there since 1993.
