African Path launched
The African Path web site has launched. African Path is created to fill a void in the marketplace for a strong Pan-African web site where news content and blogging can be merged into a unified voice. A lot of African bloggers are discussing issues relevant to the continent but online exposure to these blogs is limited. African Path aims to provide this much needed exposure. We aim to fill the void left by big media in covering information on Africa and providing a forum in which Africans can discuss issues concerning themselves both within and outside the continent.

It does look promising, doesn't it? Let's see how fast it catches on with global bloggers and people interested in news about Africa and the African diaspora. What is also interesting is that it appears that the new site is affiliated with the web design firm Spectrum Interactive Media and the Mshale.com folks (Mshale Communicaions) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Mshale is a minority owned & operated publishing company focusing on much of the same news appearing at the new African Path site.
Wonder what they are paying for their news feeds from bloggers and journalists and media networks? If they could figure out a way to pay Africa's bloggers for their work they would be off to a great start. Online video feeds and some audio podcasts wouldn't hurt either.
Cheers and Happy New Year 2007, Andrew.

AfricanPath already has a listing of some key African blogs, and I see this as an endorsement of the blogging phenomenon.
The new website, joins a few others like AllAfrica.com, BlogAfrica.com, Global Voices, that have been amplifing our voices, from Africa. As to how effective AfricanPath will be, time will tell.

Hello Everyone,
It is quite interesting to be reading about one's work as a conversation amongst others. I have formed a habit of going back to the blogs that have profiled us and giving my thanks and support. I just want to say thank you once again and I look forward to this journey. Hopefully it will be well worth it for everyone involved. As a point of correction, Mshale offers news instead of commentary and opinions. They cover news for Africans within the US or rather in Minnesota. That is the major differentiation between Mshale and African Path.
