Back in session
So parliament is back in session with Teshome Toga, the former Minister for Youth, Sports and Culture sitting in the speaker's chair. As most people had predicted, the CUD did not show up. Instead they issued an eight-strong list of pre-conditions which you can see here.
Meles is due to name his cabinet tomorrow. But nobody seems to know what happens after that. The streets are as quiet as ever - probably due to the presence of large numbers of federal police and a huge thunder storm which is rattling the windows as I write.
I have not seen anyone else mention this, but the rain has played a crucial role in this year's election and its aftermath. The June 8 killings, for example, would have been much worse if the rain had not flooded down to clear the streets at the climax of the unrest.

Andrew
You seem to be wishing another mayhem in Addis Ababa streets. What is wrong with you?

Keep up the good work. I have found your blogs to be more informative than any news agencies’ following this crisis.

Tamiru,
What led you to think that Andrew wishes another mayhem in Addis? You must be seeing things. Or, you don't understand plain English.

ANDREW,
GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK!
DON'T YOU THINK THE ABSENCE OF A EU FINAL REPORT IS WORTH REPORTING ON?
IT WAS PROMISED FOR SEPTEMBER 23RD BUT AFTER THE PM'S LETTER THE EU-EOM SEEMS TO HAVE GONE HIDING. IS THIS NOT SHRINKING FROM ITS RESPONSIBILITY?

one more thing - I didn't mean for the blog, but for one of the papers you write for...or if not that atleast send it as an idea to an invetigative journalist friend that may be interested? Since you already have access to the papers, it would be significantly easier for you to have it published than most people who would like to see this story see the light of day. I think this would make an interesting story on how Britain primarly, and also the EU takes care of its 'poster boy'. The powers that be may not let you print it, but I think it is worth a try. What do you think?

Soon going back to see Addis alittle over a decade across the Atlantic, hope to find it as I left it or may be even better. But what I hope most, not to find myself in apolice state or the time around May 91, well I prolly recognize some faces I kno back in 91 walkin in boxer shorts and AK47... roamin around the neighborhood and posted at gates of some rebel officials. I heard that those who were in boxter shorts moved into those villas and driving SUVs now, after earning their degrees from civil service college. I am down with that as long as they dont act like they were back then.. huh, lookin forward to see Addis once again and all the good things..!
