Ethiopia erupts

Erta AleHere is a side to Ethiopia you don't often see. George Kourounis, a Canadian explorer, has just been climbing Erta Ale which, apparently, is Ethiopia's most active volcano. The volcano is in the north eastern state of Afar, in the Danakil Depression, known as the hottest place on earth. According to Kourounis' website, "daytime temperatures are usually above 40 degrees Celcius ... the base of the volcano actually lies below sea level and it's summit rises up to 613 Meters." Thanks to Friends of Ethiopia for finding the story.
